Care from people who know you

Redgum Medical Group is a regional practice, here for the people of Corowa, Rutherglen, and Howlong, on both sides of the NSW-Victoria border. Our doctors live in these towns. Many of our staff have looked after the same families for two and three generations.

Good general practice goes beyond preventing, diagnosing, and treating illness. It means being a doctor who knows your history, takes the time to listen, and follows through. When you come to Redgum, your appointment is a proper one, and your care is followed up.

Alongside everyday GP appointments, we run a number of specialist services that the community asks for, including our Antenatal Clinic, Script Clinic, and Flu Clinic.

Lifelong Learning

Redgum Medical Group is an accredited teaching practice and participates in the Australian General Practice Training Program.

Being involved in the teaching of Medical Students and post-graduate (General Practice [GP] Registrar) education is an important aspect of the practice. GP Registrars are fully qualified Doctors who have decided to pursue a rewarding career in General Practice. These Doctors join GP training in our region and develop their skills and knowledge through support and mentoring by our experienced GP supervisors.

Obtaining the services of high-quality registrars means we are able to enhance the quality of service we offer you.

Redgum Medical Group (previously Corowa Medical Centre) has been serving the region for over 100 years.

The centre was founded in 1910 by Dr Barnard, and later joined by Dr Fairley. In 1964, two became three, with the practice growing to also welcome Dr Rodney Barkman. The ‘Corowa Medical Centre’ was purpose built in 1976, and the Redgum Medical Group’s Corowa practice still stands in the same location today. Two years later, in 1978, Dr Ross Wilson moved into these rooms with Dr Barkman.

Expanding into our bordering state, June 1999 saw the Rutherglen branch open at the old Courthouse Building. In March 2005, the practice relocated to a premises shared with Glenview Community Health Service. In 2025, Rutherglen moved again, into a new purpose-built building where it remains co-located with Glenview.

Diversifying, the Redgum Skin Clinic was built in late 2021, offering a specialised service in the heart of Corowa. Over the decades a number of major renovations have been carried out, expanding the practice and increasing the range of health services on offer.

To reflect the continued growth, the practice was rebranded to better represent the wider community we care for. Stepping out in mid 2022 with a new look, under a new name: Redgum Medical Group.

In 2023, a third clinic opened in Howlong on Hammer Street, broadening access to general practice across the region.

In early 2026, the Redgum Skin Clinic was brought back under the main Corowa roof, with skin cancer surveillance continuing as a key service alongside general practice.

Across three clinics in Corowa, Rutherglen, and Howlong, Redgum continues a tradition of regional general practice now well into its second century, with the same focus that started it: knowing our patients and following through on their care.
